Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG® CLS Receives Updates for 2021
The CLS is entering the 2021 model year with new exterior color options (Mojave silver and Cirrus silver) and an extensive technical update. The CLS 45, CLS 45 4MATIC®, and the Mercedes-AMG® CLS 50 will all feature the latest generation of the MBUX multimedia system and the most enhanced driver assistance systems.
Mercedes-Benz User Experience
The CLS comes standard with two 12.3-inch high-resolution screens side by side to give a widescreen effect. Superb graphics and high visual quality are used to provide appealing displays that help to reinforce the intuitive nature of the control structure, which can now be accessed through the touchscreen.
The MBUX system uses artificial intelligence and predictive functions to anticipate what the user would like next. For example, if the driver usually calls the same person every Tuesday during their drive home, the system will suggest that person’s number in the display only on this day of the week.
Another feature of MBUX is the augmented reality navigation technology. When the navigation system is being used, it displays a video image of the surroundings, enhanced with helpful navigation information such as arrows, house numbers, and street names, automatically superimposed directly into the video on the display. Augmented reality navigation will also display the current traffic light status when the vehicle is stopped at a traffic light.
Driver Assistance System
The CLS will also feature the latest driver assistance systems to provide an especially high level of active safety. The CLS comes standard with Active Brake Assist, which can help prevent collisions or mitigate the severity of a collision.
Active Speed Limit Assist uses map data and information from Traffic Sign Assist to respond to changes in the speed limit and route baked speed adaption ahead of bends, roundabouts, toll stations and T-junctions, as well prior to exiting highways and expressways.
When the driver switches on Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC with route-based speed adaptation, the CLS is now even able to respond to data from Live Traffic Information. When driving in traffic, Active Stop-and-Go Assist is largely able to perform the tasks of keeping in lane and maintaining the safety distance with a high level of availability at speeds up to around 37 mph. The vehicle can also restart automatically up to one minute after coming to a stop.
