3 Mercedes-Benz Models Earn Top Safety Pick Ratings from IIHS
Three Mercedes-Benz models have been awarded the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Top Safety Pick or better for 2021!
The 3 models rated are:
- 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan – Top Safety Pick
- 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV – Top Safety Pick
- 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class SUV – Top Safety Pick+
In order to receive a Top Safety Pick rating, vehicles must receive ‘GOOD’ ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. Also vehicles have to get an ‘ADVANCED’ or ‘SUPERIOR’ rating for available front crash prevention and vehicle-to-vehicle/vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.
The C-Class Sedan was rated in the Midsize luxury car category and received ‘GOOD’ ratings in each of the six crashworthiness tests. It also received ‘GOOD’ ratings in the Crash Avoidance category with the suggested safety features and specific headlights.
The GLC and GLE were both rated in the Midsize Luxury SUV category. The GLC received ‘GOOD’ ratings in all six crashworthiness tests and SUPERIOR’ ratings in the vehicle-to-vehicle/vehicle-to-pedestrian category.
The GLE-Class won the Top Safety Pick+ rating. To receive a Top Safety Pick+ rating, a vehicle must receive ‘GOOD’ ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. Also, a vehicle must receive ‘ADVANCED’ or ‘SUPERIOR’ rating for available front crash prevention — vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations, and must have ‘ACCEPTABLE’ or ‘GOOD’ headlights standard.
